About us...

Learn a little bit more

Here you will find information on how we were founded and what our aims and goals are for the future

Futures In Mind (formerly known as Talk To Tom) is a community-based charity focused on suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and bereavement support. Our mission is to save lives by breaking down the barriers and stigma associated with suicide and mental health, providing financial, emotional, and educational support.

Our Beginnings...

Futures In Mind, originally known as Talk To Tom, was founded in 2012 by a group of individuals united by their experiences of losing loved ones to suicide. Recognising the absence of mental health services in their area, they were driven to make a difference.

The concept for Futures In Mind took shape around the kitchen table of our CEO and founder, Ray Cullen, and has since enabled us to support over 10,000 people. From our inception, we have been entirely volunteer-run, embodying a service created by the community for the community.

Our Journey...

From our modest inception, we have expanded to inspire hope in thousands across the South East. Evolving from a small trust, we are now a fully regulated and registered charity. Beyond guiding over 2,000 individuals facing suicidal thoughts through our doors to access necessary support, we have also trained thousands in essential suicide awareness courses, such as QPR, which we introduced to the country.

In 2024, our organisation underwent a significant transformation, changing its name from Talk To Tom to Futures In Mind. Discover more about our reasons for this change [here]. Additionally, we opened our Arklow location in 2024, following requests from and engagement with the local community.

Our Now ...

Futures In Mind is expanding in response to growing needs. We aspire to a future where our services are no longer necessary, but until that day, we remain committed to supporting everyone. We currently operate a five-unit clinical centre in Gorey, Co Wexford, which includes a purpose-built therapy room for children and adolescents. Additionally, we have established a mirrored centre in Arklow, Co Wicklow, following requests from local residents to bring our services to their town.

Our operations depend entirely on public generosity to continue our work. Moreover, we have helped three other communities establish their own organisations, adopting the Futures In Mind model and ethos.
